Velia Erpenja (chorvatsky Zagorje) Phyllostachys praecox 'Violascens' or  Phyllostachys iridescens

Hi, thank you for your post.

It is very nice plant in Velia Erpenja. Why do think that this plant is Phyllostachys praecox 'Violascens'? I think it looks like Phyllostachys iridescens.

Because of  thin decorative stripes and compact internodes at the bottom of stalks!

I compared pictures from this site: http://www.bambus-lexikon.de/phyllostac … cens0.html

Correct me if I'm wrong, I'm not expert.

Re: Bambusy v Chorvatsku (kontinentální regiony)

I think, there is bigger possibility that this is Phyllostachys iridescens. Both are very similar, but what i can see on photos is plant with green stems, most of them have yellow stripes, but only very few stems have brown to violet stripes. I think it is more typical for Phyllostachys iridescens.

Second reason is weather. I think Phyllostachys violascens need more warm conditions to made so big stems. For Phyllostachys iridescens this weather can be enought i think.

But determination it is not so important, maybe i am wrong, but it is very nice plant.

Bamboo plantation is 28 years old, southern exposure and micro-climate is 8a! As per my knowledge, the largest inland bamboo plantation in Croatia.
